The Bad Effect Of Stress On Your Diet Program
No comments · Posted by Lynne Keller in Diet Drinks
Experience has shown that people who go on a diet almost always are doomed to fail.
This is a fact. Suppressing an urge is very stressful. People under stress release hormones that start a cycle of eating, thus the weight gain. This is why weight loss with hypnosis is so powerful: change your behavior and your weight will begin to melt off you.
Under stress, many people eat for relief, which, unfortunately, lasts only as long as the last bite. The pressure will be back immediately after. The fact is that the sense of relief is an illusion. The inevitable feelings of being a failure set in. The continuing cycle of stress and eating will inevitably result to more weight gain.
The solution?
Obviously, eating will not solve your emotional problems. Instead of stuffing yourself with food when under stress, you can think of ways to break the vicious cycle and cope with stress without resorting to compulsive eating and thus stopping gaining weight.
Emotional eaters take to eating food as a response to a need. Maybe the need is about making positive contributions, of being wanted or doing constructive things. What are your eating triggers? When you feel bored or helpless or dissatisfied? First, you have to identify what triggers your need, and then you can figure out a way of circumventing it. There are things you can do to keep on top of the situation.
Keep a food journal. Are you particular about a specific food or foods and why? Watch for any signs of a pattern. Once you have a clear picture, you can think of how to disrupt it.
Shop for some new “stimulants.” Do you eat when you’re bored? So look for something that will take your mind away from food – best selling books, music CDs, DVD films or anything inspirational that you may be subconsciously looking for. Turn to these whenever you feel the urge to eat.
Call your best friend. Do you eat to escape painful feelings? Engage in talking, not in eating. Call someone who makes you feel good.
Create new habits. Find a hobby. Eating is the farthest thing from your mind when you are in the midst of some engrossing activity. Physically demanding activities would be perfect because it will complement your diet program.
Follow your dreams. Working for the attainment of your aspiration will give you the motivation. With taking a simple, small step forward the feelings of empowerment and accomplishment provide a heady satisfaction that begins a cycle of satisfaction and for many, satisfaction without food.
Find new rewards. When you are able to do a difficult task, you deserve more than a pat at the back. Instead of spending your money on food, go to the spa or see a movie or a play.
